Welcome to MATANAs digital space where we share our talanoa, events and services for our community. Our vision at MATANA is to create a space where people can find ownership and strength in knowing, understanding, and valuing their Fijian heritage. At Matana we aim to build community, unity, and identity through our culture.
From our meke (traditional dance), talanoa (story telling), arts, language, education, partnerships and events platforms, our aim is to equip our community with tools and a sense of pride in their identity, to support in the development of our community and give people a sense of belonging.
As our group continues to grow and transition, we challenge ourselves to create new opportunities that will respectfully serve our community, serve our culture, and positively serve the members of Matana.
MATANA (Mah-Tah-Nah) means ‘Face’ in the Fijian language and as Fijians living in Brisbane, the name was chosen because we are a representation of the Face of our rich iTaukei Fijian culture in our community.
